The policies regarding the electronic deposit of papers and thesis of the Pisa University have been approved. Art. 2 (Duties of PhD Students regarding PhD public consultability) 3. the conferment of PhD title is subordinated to the self-archiving of the final PhD thesis into the institutional open access repository; conservation and public availability is on the account of the University. Art. 3 (Limits to thesis consultability) 1. the limits to free consultability of PhD thesis are the following: a) parts of the thesis are in press or waiting for publication; b) thesis contains sensitive data; c) thesis is funded by third party, having rights on contents or publication. 2. In case of such circumnstances, a one-year embargo is allowed, plus 6 months if motivated reasons subsist. At the end of the embargo the thesis are publicly available. Art. 4 (PhD thesis under Patent) 1. PhD thesis can present innovation features and then being under patent; due to this reason, consultability can be limited. The patent can be requested only before the discussion of the thesis; at that moment, all the files for the patent request have to be closed.
